International Nurses Day marks a day for the service that nurses provide to society. May 12 is the date when it is celebrated every year. Florence Nightingale, a British reformer and founder of modern nursing was born this day. Therefore, the day also marks as her birth anniversary.

We are in the pandemic situation of coronavirus this year. Nurses around the world are selflessly serving the patients. They are really working as strong pillars.

So, let us honour the nurses and other health workers on International Nurses Day 2020.

History

On January 1974, 12 May was picked to praise the day as it is the commemoration of birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.

Every year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) plans to donate the International Nurses’ Day kit. The kit pack contains instructive and public data materials, for use by medical nurses all over.

Theme

‘A Voice To Lead – Nursing The World To Health’, is the theme of World Nurses Day 2020. It shows how medical attendants are integral to tending to a wide scope of wellbeing challenges.

It will empower medical caretakers and people in general to command the huge day. In addition, it will also give data and assets that will assist with raising the profession profile consistently and draw in another age into the nursing family.

This year, the International Council of Nurses and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement have held hands to observe International Nurses Day 2020.

They expect to “praise nurses worldwide and specifically those dealing with a remarkable burden of treating patients of COVID-19 while likewise keeping up other basic health administrations”.

Apart from this, the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked people to be a part of the global movement.

WHO wants us to be a part in the remembrance of the health workers who tragically lost their lives amidst the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

One can light candles, share their photo across social media with hashtag #RememberHealthHeroes.
