In the previous article, we discussed all the celebrities in politics in India and it was surprising to see some a few names in the list. If you haven’t read it, read it here before you continue with the first part Bollywood celebrities who entered the world of politics : Part 1

1. Mithun Chakraborty

Chakraborty joined as an MP after he was nominated for Rajya Sabha elections by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. However, Gourang Chakraborty lovingly known as Mithun da resigned as a Rajya Sabha member on 26 December 2016.

2. Shatrughan Sinha

The Khaamosh superstar turned to politics by contesting against the fellow actor, Rajesh Khanna in the year 1991. This caused a rift between the two friends which remains Sinha’s deepest regret till date. He tried reconciling as well but that did not happen until Rajesh Khanna’s demise.

His political career began in full swing after he defeated another fellow actor of his, Shekhar Suman and won the Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar in 2009. He became a cabinet minister for the Department of Health and Family Welfare and the department of shipping. Sinha is currently a member of the Indian National Congress after he was not given a seat for the 2019 BJP elections.

3. Jaya Bachchan

Veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan is one of the most intelligent people we have in our industry. Her views have always been strong and prudent. She has always been quite intense when it comes to politics in India.

After receiving financial assistance from Amar Singh, she and her husband Amitabh started supporting the Samajwadi Party relentlessly. She was elected in 2004 as an MP representing UP in the Rajya Sabha till March 2006. She got elected four more times and recently bagged the ‘Best Woman Parliamentarian of the Year’ Award.

4. Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher chanced upon politics by taking active participation in NGO’s such as Laadli (against female infanticide) and Roko Cancer (For Cancer awareness) in 2011 but when she was approached for ‘Aam Aadmi Party’, she refused to be part of it.

She has always been an admirer of Narendra Modi and has also campaigned for BJP a few times. BJP gave her a seat for the Lok Sabha candidature from Chandigarh for General Elections 2014 and she won the seat with a good majority of votes. As an MP from Chandigarh and being connected with the film industry, she promised to establish a film city in the city.

5. Hema Malini

Actress-politician Hema Malini campaigned for her friend Vinod Khanna during the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. She officially joined hands with BJP in 2004 and was selected as the general secretary.

Much like her husband she is also criticised for her sporadic visits to her constituency in the last five years. She is also heavily trolled now and then for her contrary statements about her political work. However, she contested on a BJP seat and won the 2014 elections from Mathura.
