Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian Awards of India that are announced on every Republic Day.
Padma awards are conferred in three categories :
- Padma Vibhushan – is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service
- Padma Bhushan – is awarded for distinguished service of high order
- Padma Shri – is awarded for distinguished service in any field
Padma Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
2019 Padma Awards
This year 112 Padma Awards were conferred. Out of these:
- 4 Padma Vibhushan
- 14 Padma Bhushan
- 94 Padma Shri Awards were given.
Out of these
- 21 awardees are women
- 11 are Foreigners
- 3 Posthumous(After death)
- 1 transgender were there.
Among notable personalities, Kader Khan was awarded Padma Shri Posthumous including Shri Devendra Swarup, Shri Kuldip Nayar.
