Celebrities in India always live their lives in the public eye and out of them some left us a little too soon. Shockingly, these deaths are still remembered for their bizarre circumstances(Divya Bharti, Nafisa). Many of them have committed suicide. Here is a list of sudden and mysterious deaths that rocked the nation. Some of the death mysteries remain unsolved till date:
Divya Bharti
At her career’s peak, she was considered one of the most promising Bollywood actresses after movies like Deewana and Vishwatma. However, she died when she was just 19-years old. Divya Bharti is supposed to have accidentally tumbled down from the fifth floor of her Mumbai apartment on April 5, 1993.
The case was considered an accident under the influence of alcohol, but many believe that it was an act of her husband Sajid Nadiadwala, a famous Bollywood producer who had married her secretly on the sets of Shola Aur Shabnam.
Parveen Babi
Parveen was the first-ever Bollywood star to grace the cover of the iconic Time Magazine in 1976. She also featured in a number of Bollywood blockbusters throughout the ’70s and ’80s. She was found dead in her home on January 22, 2005, under mysterious circumstances since she had been living an isolated life for many years prior to her death after her estranged relationship with Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.
She was rumoured to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and it is not certain whether she committed suicide or if she died a natural death.
Kuljeet Randhawa
Model-turned-actress Kuljeet Randhawa famous for the serial C.A.T.S. was found dead at her apartment in Juhu with a suicide note that claimed that she wasn’t able to deal with the complexities of life.
Nafisa Joseph
Nafisa was the winner of the Femina Miss India Universe title in 1997 and one of the finalists of the Miss Universe 1997 pageant. She was also one of the most famous models in India and an MTV video jockey. Nafisa reportedly hanged herself in her apartment in Mumbai on July 29, 2004. Surprisingly, her wedding was called off just a few weeks before her death when she found out that her fiancée Gautam Khanduja (an Indian businessman) hadn’t told her about his first marriage.
Guru Dutt
The iconic director, producer, and actor of classics like Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Pyaasa, etc. was found lifeless in his bed on October 10, 1964, due to allegedly consuming a deadly concoction of alcohol and sleeping pills. He was reportedly fighting depression for a long time and had attempted suicide twice prior to his death. It is not clear if his death was due to suicide or accidental overdose.
Shikha Joshi
Shikha Joshi was part of the Bollywood movie BA Pass. She allegedly committed suicide due to frustration of not getting good acting roles in Bollywood. She is said to have ‘slit her throat’ at her MHADA flat in Versova, Mumbai.
