Summer officially arrives today on 21st June with the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. It is a tradition in the west to celebrate summers because they are mostly under winter conditions but for countries like India, it makes no sense to celebrate summers. In fact, rising mercury levels are a cause of great concerns for people here however Google has depicted as one of its ‘O’ in the shape of the earth.

It is to be noted that today Earth’s poles are tilted toward the Sun which marks the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere while in the southern hemisphere it is called the winter solstice.

Google doodle also shows earth with coconut tree and beach bench signifying mood of relaxation.

21 June celebration in Stonehenge

It is a tradition in English culture to celebrate Summer Solstice in Stonehenge. It is believed that it is around 3000 BC to 2000 BC old architecture. It is a matter of great wonder for people, how people of those times were able to build such a perfect monument that would show the sunrise through gates of the monument.
